The Preston House Restaurant Relaunches as an Exclusive Private Event Venue
RIVERHEAD, NEW YORK | Originally a turn-of-the-century 1905 historical home, The Preston House and Hotel (PHH) was restored with a focus on sustainability and refinement and transformed into boutique hotel and restaurant. Ever evolving, PHH announces a conceptual changeover from full service restaurant to an exclusive event space featuring the upscale and historic ambiance it is known for, as of October 23, 2023.
The decision to relaunch the restaurant as an event space was made after demand grew “exponentially” for private event rentals and in-house events such as pairing dinners and holiday festivities. The change also complements the hotel, which can fully accommodate large parties for overnight stays.
“This modification will better meet the needs of our guests and support the growing demand for unique event space in downtown Riverhead. In addition to our in-house catering, we can extend the opportunity for chefs, catering companies and distillers to ‘pop-up’ and introduce their unique menus to the region,” Steven Shauger, executive director, The Preston House & Hotel.

The PHH catering and events team will increase curation of in-house events, set to display local wines, craft spirits, farm fare and the like. The focus will be collaborative menus curated by guest chefs that specialize in unique cuisine and dining experiences.
For private events, the rustic-chic venue may be rented for functions such as weddings, holiday parties, private dinners, corporate and press events and other celebrations for both small and large groups. For large functions, the venue may be rented in entirety or guests may choose from multiple spaces fit for intimate gatherings:
1905 Cellar Lounge cellar | 480 sq. ft. | capacity: 40 guests*
The cellar room lounge is comprised of the original stonework and concrete flooring of the house built in 1905. Overlooking the fireplace and an 850-bottle wine vault, this classic and historic, one-of-a-kind space is perfect for happy hour, social events and holiday parties
Mahogany & Stone Room cellar | 220 sq. ft. | capacity: 18 guests*
An intimate and unique space beside the 1905 Wine Lounge perfect for private dinners or boardroom lunches. With original stonework and rich wood accents, the room offers historic charm with modern amenities, including audiovisual equipment for meetings and small conferences.
*The Cellar Lounge and Mahogany Stone Room may be rented individually or together for a total of 700 sq. ft | capacity: 58 guests
Dining Room & Bar Room 1st floor | 360 sq. ft. | capacity: 30 guests
Featuring a bar and dining room, the first floor invites guests to host cocktail gatherings and sit down dinners overlooking a wrap around porch which is original to the building. Outdoor events can be hosted under the pergola which is just off of the first floor dining room.
Barn Door Room 2nd floor | 220 sq. ft. | capacity 28 guests seated; 35 guests standing
Featuring the original 1891 barn doors and rich woodwork, this room is the perfect rustic setting to enjoy the ambiance of a restaurant, while allowing for intimate conversation between friends during social events, private dinners and cocktail receptions. For an unforgettable experience, a large chef’s table can be configured in the center of the room.
For overnight stays, The Preston Hotel, located directly behind the house, features twenty studios and suites furnished with industrial chic decor. Located on its neighboring property, the historic Howell House was restored with timeless opulence and art deco in mind, and added to PHH’s offerings in 2023. Fully equipped, the Howell House offers four suite options or may be rented in its entirety, perfectly suited for longer stays and private gatherings.
PHH will host their first exclusive event on Friday, October 27, 2023; a four-course wine pairing dinner hosted by the winemaker of McCall Wines, Cutchogue, New York.
